Automated map reading detection (AMRD) is a method which allows an orienteer to determine at which point during an orienteering training or race he was looking at the map (aka reading the map). This is done by combining an acceleration detector with a GPS track measured by a GPS logger. In this way, the way the mapreading technique of the athlet can be analyzed.
The athlete or the athlete together with the coach can analyze the cause of mistakes during the run and get insight into the way the athlete reads the map.
